(This is an older post from the beginning of last year, but it still relevant and relatively interesting, in my opinion.)

Alright, so yea, maybe it IS just a fancy name for a remote control. But this is one amazingly customizable, high powered remote control.

The core idea is to build a wearable remote using a few microcontrollers and a long range transceiver. This unit can then communicate using serial commands with any other project or device that has a companion transceiver. A monochromatic display can easily be utilized to pull general information from the system, and a few buttons and possibly a D-pad will work perfectly as input devices. It will be my ultimate controller for the electrical and mechanical equipment in the shop (on/off functions, at the very least). It will also serve as a controller for any future projects that could benefit from wireless control or communication with a human.

So far, the part list is as follows.

When I have the money, I will start purchasing parts. I don't have a time frame for this project, as I'm away from the shop here at school and I'm not sure how much access I have to the engineering building, or if we have an open lab. Either way I'm still in the planning stages. Some of the things to be checked off of the to-do list before I can start purchasing assembly:

How will the device be contained / what will it be built in?
What will be the arrangement of human-type (visible/touchable) IO on the top of the device?
What other odds and ends could or should be added to this prototype?

After answering these questions, collecting funds, and finding some 'shop time', I should be able to begin construction and testing. This device is open to revision, however, so if you have suggestions or criticism, please feel free to share your thoughts. This is going to be a fun project.
