Blender 2.57 Release

Just a quick post today. It’s worth noting that Blender version 2.57 has been officially released!

Blender 2.57 is the first non-beta version of Blender’s newest incarnation. What does this mean to you? If you’ve already been using the 2.5 series beta versions, this means that a solid, stable version has released for you to play with, with a few new and changed features and far fewer bugs! If you’ve been holding off on the 2.5 series and are still working with a 2.4 Blender, you are in for a treat. Blender 2.5 has a fresh new code base, a reorganized and very intuitive and efficient GUI, tons of new features like volumetric smoke and flames, and overall just more powah!

If you haven’t even heard of Blender, well what are you waiting for! It’s a free (as in beer) 3D graphics package that can hold it’s own against the big boys. Sound too good to be true? I’m not exaggerating. It is an absolutely amazing package.

Head on over to Blender.org to check it out. You won’t regret it!

Reactors, Green Screens, and Protective Pots

With the IZL green screen nearly finished, (or at least as ‘finished’ as any DIY project can be), I decided rather than just do some lame speaking in front of the screen kind of test, I would spice things up a bit. Tie this thought in with the recent creation of my look alike Arc Reactor, and we have a decent premise for a simple though effective twenty second green screen test.

Parallels = Fail

Ah, sometimes I wish people payed more attention to Mac.

Note to any haters. I don't prefer Mac to Windows, or Windows to Mac. I prefer
linux to both. This is because Windows is too unstable and Mac is too proprietary.
Linux is the bomb. End of story. :]

I run Parallels on my Macbook Pro, because on occasion I want to play a decent game. That and the fact that the only free camera tracker in existence that is commonly used with Blender is a Windows/linux only application. So unfortunately I have to have my XP fix.

What have they done to my beautiful Mac!

What have they done to my beautiful Mac!

If you just asked yourself why I didn't use Vista instead of XP, you should
probably leave before this gets too in depth. Don't want you to hurt yourself.
Isn't it purty?

Isn't it beautiful?

As you can see above, sometimes Mac and Windows don’t play nicely if my Macbook Pro falls asleep while Windows is doing number crunching for one reason or another. Then, when I boot back up, my screen is horribly mangled. It was so beautiful at times that I took some nice pictures, as well as a video. I’m not embedding the video as it has some language that is NSFW. If you want to see it, find your way over to my Vimeo page.
